Beta Gamma Chapter Philanthropy of Yesteryear

Fallout Shelters

In this newspaper clipping, Beta Gamma Chapter members Jane Rademacher and Christine Taylor help stock a fallout shelter at the University of Colorado.

Fallout Shelters

In the midst of the Cold War, the U.S. government recommended fallout shelters as a civil defense measure against a nuclear attack. Many were stocked with supplies such as canned food, water storage drums, first-aid kits, and reading or other recreational materials. As part of the Associated Students Health and Welfare Commission, Beta Gamma Chapter members helped equip the fallout shelters on the University of Colorado campus.
