Feb 26th, 1969

Founding Date

Epsilon Epsilon was installed as Alpha Phi’s 92nd chapter on May 3 and 4. Delta Alpha chapter from East Carolina performed the initiation and model meeting. The festivities began with an inspirational ceremony for the collegiate and alumnae initiates on Friday evening in the chapter room. Participants in the ceremony were Sara Ann Wheeler Hatton (Omicron-Missouri), International President; Mary Carr Boyd (Omicron-Missouri); Frances Rauch Marti (Alpha-Syracuse), district governor, and Chris Williams Barr (Gamma Iota-Texas Tech).

Saturday was a big day. Initiation began at 10:00 a.m. and was held in the chapter room in French Hall. Sack lunches were served to all after congratulations had been given to the nineteen collegiate initiates and eight alumnae initiates. The model chapter meeting began at 2:00 p.m. and was also held in the chapter room.

At 6:30 p.m., a formal banquet was held at the Hotel Weyanoke. Welcomes to the new chapter were extended by Henry Willett, president of Longwood College; Ruth Wilson, dean of students; Mary Carr Boyd, and Wanda Snyder, president of Delta Alpha chapter. Betty Savage, president of the new chapter, gave a response to the welcomes.

Sunday morning all of the members went to a service at the Farmville Baptist Church. That afternoon, a reception was held to honor the new initiates in the Gold Room of Lankford Building. Mrs. Boyd presented Betty Savage with the chapter charter in a special service held at 4:30 p.m.
