Eta Alpha

University of New Hampshire

Mar 1st, 1986

Founding Date

The Eta Alpha chapter of Alpha Phi welcomed 81 collegiate and 12 alumnae initiates on an early spring weekend. Alpha Phi volunteers from across the country were present on installation weekend to welcome the newest members. International President Nancy Wittgen Burks DeVoe (Gamma-DePauw) and Vice-President Alumnae Mary Berkmoes Carroll (Delta Omega-Minnesota State Moorhead) represented the Executive Board. International Ceremonies and Ritual Chairman Phyllis Sims Selig (Gamma Delta-Kansas) conducted the initiation ceremony, assisted by Administrator of Chapter Promotion and Chapter Supervisor Colette Tyrrell Rankin (Alpha-Syracuse), Field Representative Lindsay Laughlin Amadeo (Gamma Omicron-Drake), and collegians from Zeta Rho chapter at Bentley College. District officers in attendance included Alumnae Chairman Nancy Wolle Van Deusen (Beta Gamma-Colorado) and Governor Sally Martin Richter.

Installation weekend activities began with an informal supper on February 28 followed by the Court of Ivy conducted by the Bentley College collegians. Following the initiation ceremony on March 1, a reception, planned by installation weekend chairman Jarry West Stearns (Epsilon-Minnesota), honored the new initiates. During the Chartering Ceremony, conducted by International President Nancy DeVoe, parents and friends witnessed the charter signing, signaling Eta Alpha’s place in Alpha Phi history.
