Founding Date

In 1902, a local sorority named Kappa Alpha Phi, was established at Linfield College. When the group was installed as Theta Alpha chapter on February 25, 1990, it became the oldest local sorority ever to join Alpha Phi.

Present for the installation weekend were International Vice-President Alumnae Mary Berkmoes Peterson (Delta Omega-Minnesota State Moorhead), District Alumnae Coordinator Barbara Marquis Hart (Beta Upsilon-Oregon State), Chapter Supervisor Kelly Brown, and Field Consultant Jacquelin Haas LeBreck (Zeta Delta-Iowa State). Representing the Portland Area Alumnae Chapter were Susan Ehley Acord (Delta Omega-Minnesota State Moorhead), and Connie Pomeroy (Gamma Tau-Willamette). Collegians from Beta Upsilon chapter at Oregon State assisted in the initiation ceremonies.

A lovely reception held in Melrose Hall was planned for Installation Chairman Virginia Miller Grabow (Beta Upsilon-Oregon State). Barbara Hart was toastmistress for the event attended by alumnae, parents and college dignitaries. Linfield College president, Dr. Charles Walker, officially welcomed Alpha Phi. During his remarks, he praised Alpha Phi’s ideals and dedication to the pursuit of excellence.
