November 11, 2018, marked the installation of the Kappa Eta chapter of the University of Florida. The celebration of the Fraternity’s newest chapter took place in the Reitz Union Grand Ballroom, also the site of the chapter’s initiation. Former Interim Executive Director Linda Schnetzer (Beta Omicron-Bowling Green) presided over the initiation of more than 150 women, while Extension Team Lead Susan Weiskittle Barrick (Beta Omicron-Bowling Green) served as the toastmistress at the installation banquet. Joining the University of Florida community became a dream come true in the fall of 2014. At that time, Alpha Phi was selected to be the second of two new sororities to join the campus. While waiting to join this prestigious campus, Susan Weiskittle Barrick (Beta Omicron-Bowling Green) and the extension department cultivated local alumnae and built a relationship with the Fraternity and Sorority Affairs staff. The Kappa Eta chapter was established in September 2018 following the hard work of our Educational Leadership Consultants and volunteer team.
Alpha Phi's extension presentation was made on October 29, 2014 and Alpha Phi was selected with Gamma Phi Beta in a two-tier extension plan. Alpha Phi chose to take the second establishment slot and so initially was to establish in 2016. However, due to concerns over chapter size disparities, Panhellenic Council voted to move the Alpha Phi establishment to fall 2018. Parties for the 2018 establishment recruitment and the 2019 initial Formal Recruitment were held in fraternity houses and the third Formal Recruitment was entirely virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Florida chapter facility is scheduled to open in Fall 2023.
