Iota Xi

University of Denver

May 2nd, 2010

Founding Date

In November 2009, Alpha Phi was invited by the University of Denver’s Panhellenic to join them as the fifth National Panhellenic Conference sorority on campus. As soon as the winter quarter began in January, a team of educational leadership consultants, local alumnae, collegians and the DU Greek community partnered to lead marketing efforts on campus.

Alpha Phi hosted a series of establishment recruitment events at which potential members could learn more about Alpha Phi and get to know some of the other women interested in joining. Collegiate members from Colorado (Beta Gamma) and Northern Colorado (Delta Gamma) assisted with the recruitment events, and local alumnae conducted one-on-one interviews with potential members.

On Friday, January 22, Alpha Phi welcomed 84 women to our sisterhood. The women received Alpha Phi marketing items and enjoyed a sisterhood event the following Monday at Dave & Buster’s.

The new chapter was established in January through a series of recruitment events and personal interviews with local alumnae. On May 2, 2010, Alpha Phi welcomed more than 80 new members to Iota Xi.

International Executive Board Directors and Team Denver Members Billie Coskey Battiato (Phi-Oklahoma) and Renee Smith Zimmerman Zainer (Beta Epsilon-Arizona) conducted the initiation ceremony and presented the charter.

The Foundation presented the community contribution donation to Gifts Fight Back, a women’s safety and self-defense organization founded by Erin Weed (Zeta Alpha-Eastern Illinois). The company sponsored a program held on campus for Panhellenic women in February. Foundation Representatives Nancy Owen Craig (Beta Chi-Bucknell) and Susan Weiskittle Barrick (Beta Omicron-Bowling Green) were in attendance for the Foundation presentation and gift of the scholarship badge.
