Zeta Mu

Founding Date

The Alpha Phi chapter at Colorado State was established October 1, 1978. A total of fifty-nine women completed the new member program. The founding officers were installed as active officers for the spring semester. Installation events included the Court of Ivy conducted by the Beta Gamma (Colorado) chapter. This was held in the North Ballroom of the CSU Student Center April 6 at 7:30. Delta Gamma (Northern Colorado) chapter conducted the initiation at the First United Presbyterian Church in Fort Collins on Saturday morning, April 7. Following the initiation, Delta Gamma conducted a model meeting. The reception and chartering ceremony was held that afternoon in the Cherokee Park Room, CSU Student Center. Nancy Wittgen Burks DeVoe (Gamma-DePauw), International Vice President Extension, conducted the chartering ceremony with the help of International President, Mary Carr Boyd (Omicron-Missouri), Bunny Lawrence Clement (Beta Gamma-Colorado), District Governor, Judie Tillett Stromberg (Pi-North Dakota), District Alumnae Chairman, and Susan Price-Patterson (Delta Xi-Nebraska Kearney), Zeta Mu chapter adviser. The initiation banquet was held Saturday evening in the Student Center, with Corry Mack Doty (Gamma Omicron-Drake), a director of the Alpha Phi Foundation, as toastmistress. Cathy Crompton Licht (Beta Gamma-Colorado), president of Beta Gamma chapter, gave the invocation. Cheryl Ahlbrandt (Delta Gamma-Northern Colorado), president of the Delta Gamma chapter, welcomed the new chapter on behalf of all the collegians. A very impressive main address was given by Mary Carr Boyd (Omicron-Missouri). Susan Price-Patterson (Delta Xi-Nebraska Kearney) introduced each member of the new Zeta Mu chapter, and a response was given by transfer counselor Karen Petre (Gamma Zeta-Puget Sound). Many of the womens’ parents were among the crowd of approximately two-hundred who attended the dinner. Some of the highlights of the evening consisted of presentations. Judie Tillett Stromberg (Pi-North Dakota) presented gifts from several of the alumnae chapters in the district. Among them was a President’s Pin given to Sally Diann Beck (Zeta Mu-Colorado State), to wear during her term. Patsy Krechel (Omicron-Missouri), president of Longs Peak Alumnae Chapter, introduced the first member of the new alumnae chapter to receive a fifty-year pin, Mary MacNeill Sadler (Beta Gamma-Colorado). It was awarded by International President, Mary Carr Boyd (Omicron-Missouri). The evening came to a wonderful close with Bunny Lawrence Clement (Beta Gamma-Colorado) conducting the Loving Cup Ceremony. The Zeta Mu chapter Advisory Board consisted of Susan Price-Patterson (Delta Xi-Nebraska Kearney), chapter adviser, Debbie Hubbard Anderson (Gamma Kappa-CSU Long Beach), new member adviser, Sonia Margolin ImMasche (Gamma Theta-Colorado College), fraternity education and standards adviser, Janice Jones Owen (Beta Omicron-Bowling Green), rush adviser, Nancy Houchin Swigert (Delta Delta-Oklahoma City), financial adviser, Janice Kjar Peck (Delta Xi-Nebraska Kearney), Panhellenic adviser. The Zeta Mu chapter also enjoyed the help of Installation Chairman Edie Dee Tobin (Beta Gamma-Colorado), and the president of the House Corporation Board Nancy Riley Vetterling Long (Omega-Texas), and all the members of the Longs Peak Alumnae Chapter.
