Theta Upsilon

California State University, Chico

May 13th, 1995

Founding Date

After years of trying to establish an Alpha Phi chapter on the CSU Chico campus in Chico, California, installation on May 13, 1995, of Theta Upsilon was a long-awaited success. Collegiates, alumnae and 22 mothers joined in on the initiation ceremony.

International Vice President-Finance Barbara Thomas (Gamma Iota-Texas Tech); Elizabeth Bidwell Quinn (Epsilon Chi-Cal Poly), assistant to vice president-alumnae; Jean Fenstermacher Thomas (Pi-North Dakota), new chapter co-supervisor and district alumnae coordinator; and Carole Salerno (Epsilon Gamma-Sacramento State) new chapter co-supervisor and district governor, represented Alpha Phi International.

While a new chapter for only six months, Theta Upsilon had a rich history as a 76-year-old local sorority, Alpha Chi.

Alpha Phi Foundation presented $1,000 to local Enloe Hospital Foundation to commemorate the installation and presented the chapter with a special scholarship badge. Theta Upsilon also received a perpetual badge donated by Isabel Morgan Mountain (Kappa-Stanford) to be presented to the outstanding Alpha Phi as voted by her chapter. Welcoming gifts were received from collegiate and alumnae chapters and the Executive Board. Chapter President Amy Bridges received the president’s badge from mom-and-daughter duo Sandy MacKay Boyd (Gamma Kappa-CSU Long Beach), installation coordinator and president of the House Corporation Board and alumnae chapter; and Denise Boyd (Gamma Beta-UC Santa Barbara), chapter adviser.

Members of UC Davis (Epsilon Rho), Santa Clara (Zeta Gamma) and Sacramento State (Epsilon Gamma) assisted with the installation.
