On April 1, 1990, Theta Gamma chapter was installed at Northeast Missouri State, Kirksville in the Student Union Building. Alpha Phi joined Alpha Sigma Alpha, Delta Zeta, Sigma Sigma Sigma and Sigma Kappa sororities on campus.
Present at the installation weekend activities were International Vice Presidents Virginia Burson Struble (Beta Kappa-Denison) and Colette Tyrrell Rankin (Alpha-Syracuse); Chapter Supervisor Julie Cornelius, and Chapter Consultants Kelly Connell Pitre (Epsilon Chi-Cal Poly) and Nonie Barrett Lowry (Zeta Alpha-Eastern Illinois).
A reception honoring the new chapter was held following the initiation ceremony. University President Robert Dager welcomed Alpha Phi to Northeast Missouri State and challenged the group to continue its success on campus.
Gamma Phi Delta, a local sorority, was founded on the NMSU campus in 1984. The sorority was born from an interest group (Women for Greek Expansion or WGE) that felt that the campus sorority community would benefit from another sorority that emphasized scholastics and service. In the spring of 1989, Gamma Phi Delta decided to pursue national affiliation if the chance arose on the NMSU campus. In the fall of 1989, Panhellenic Council voted to expand and sent a letter of interest to Alpha Phi. After a presentation and much discussion, the members of Gamma Phi Delta voted to establish a chapter of Alpha Phi and Panhellenic Council voted to invite Alpha Phi to expand on campus. In January of 1990, Gamma Phi Delta was given permission to become a new chapter of Alpha Phi. And, on April 1 of that year, 120 new members, Gamma Phi Delta alumnae and mothers were initiated as charter members of the Theta Gamma Chapter of Alpha Phi International.
