On March 31, 1990, Alpha Phi’s first Rhode Island chapter, Theta Beta, was installed at Bryant College. In addition to being the first Rhode Island Alpha Phi chapter, Theta Beta was the first NPC Group on Bryant’s campus.
The installation weekend was beautifully orchestrated by Muriel Sweeney (Eta-Boston), who served as installation chairman. Following inspiration days, installation weekend began with the Eta-Boston chapter assisting with the ceremonies. Present for the initiation and installation reception were International President Sally McCall Grant (Gamma-DePauw); District Alumnae Coordinator Jill Blumenthal Shaya (Zeta Theta-Tufts); Rhode Island Statewide Alumnae Chapter president Barbara Hackenjos St. Germain (Zeta Lambda-Southern New Hampshire); Field Consultant Mary Ann Matyas (Zeta Chi-Columbia), and collegians from Boston University and Bentley College.
